Dr. Vishnu R. obtained his M.Sc. in Physics from the University of Kerala and then completed his Ph.D. from the Atmospheric Sciences Division of the National Centre for Earth Science Studies (NCESS) in 2012. During his doctoral studies under the supervision of Dr. S. Muralidas, his research focused on the formation, experimental detection and electrical characteristics of Cumulonimbus clouds. At NCESS, he gained expertise in using advanced instrumentation such as LIDAR, Lightning Detector, Radioactive Potential Equalizer, Air Earth Current sensor and Condensation Particle Counter. He also designed and built a Modified Electric Field Mill to measure electric field variations caused by charged clouds. After completing his Ph.D., he worked as a KSCSTE-Postdoctoral Fellow at the same institute before becoming an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics at Sree Krishna College, Guruvayur.

Dr. Vishnu R. is a recipient of the Young Scientist Award from the Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment, Govt. of Kerala in 2008. He has presented his research at various international events, including the COSPAR conference in Germany in 2010. Additionally, he has received Foreign Travel Assistance from several national and international funding agencies such as the Committee on Space Research (COSPAR), France, the Indian National Science Academy (INSA), the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), Switzerland, and the Department of Science & Technology (DST), Government of India. His current research interests include Thundercloud dynamics, Extreme Events, and Ocean-Atmosphere interaction.

Two research scholars completed PhDs under his supervision, and three are pursuing their programs.
