National Service Scheme (NSS)
The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a prominent public service program initiated and funded by the Indian government. It is administered by the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports under the Government of India.
WINGS OF NSS
Sree Krishna College Guruvayur has two well active units of National Service Scheme 190 and 191.We had got opportunities to commit many social services for the society. Kandanassery Grama Panchayat is the participatory village of Sree Krishna College, Guruvayur. Our unit had served our best for the communicative development and environmental conservation of the adopted village. The NSS units of Sree Krishna College Guruvayur work as five wings as follows: STUDENTS INITIATIVE FOR VEGITATION (SIVe), RED REBBON CLUB (RRC), VIMUKTHI CLUB (ANTI - NARCOTIC CLUB), STUDENTS INITIATIVE IN PALLIATIVE (SIP), ELECTORAL LITERACY CLUB (ELC)
1. STUDENTS INITIATIVE FOR VEGITATION (SIVe)
Students Initiative for Vegetation (SIVe) is a club with the aim of creating environmental awareness among students spreading nature conservation activities among students in the era of exploitation of environment. It motivates the students to value environment and to develop an attitude to work for the preservation and conservation of nature. The major objective of the club is to inculcate the habit of cultivating using organic vegetables among the students which leads to its popularization among the public. The club has organized many activities to develop the culture and awareness of organic farming among the students and public. As a part of this, SIVe is doing activities related to environmental agricultural conservation such as organic farming, crop yields of agriculture and various awareness programmes.
2. RED REBBON CLUB (RRC)
RRC is a voluntary platform in the campus aimed at creating awareness about high-risk perception preventing HIV as well as promoting voluntary blood donation among the students. The RRC conducts these activities with the support of the State Department of Higher Education. RRC also conducts blood donation camps throughout the year to collect different groups of blood. It also provides a necessity class for youths to encourage voluntary blood donation among student.
3. VIMUKTHI CLUB (ANTI-NARCOTIC CLUB)
Alcohol / Drug / substances abuses becoming an increasing menace in our nation especially in Kerala. Studies show that even school and college students are attracted towards liquor, narcotic, substances and tobacco products. The major case of concern is that a significant proportion of these young people eventually get addicted posing a threat to their own health and safety while creating untold miseries to their families and the public at large. In order to curb the above menace, the excise department as a part of Vimukthi mission conducts Anti-drug club. This stands for augmenting and strengthening the existing awareness programme against drugs and alcohol.
4. STUDENTS INITIATIVE IN PALLIATIVE (SIP)
SIP ensures consistent involvement of young and vibrant students of the College, for optimizing quality of life and mitigating the sufferings of people with serious, complex, and often terminal illnesses. By engaging student palliative care, the energy of the students can be utilised for the benefit of patients with chronic diseases and also it may have a positive effect in the attitude and personality of students. We make the students aware of the society in which they live and encourage community participation in Palliative Care Activities. The essence of SIP is the strength acquired from unconditional love and care for humanity Student.
5. Electoral Literacy club
An electoral literacy club is a platform to engage college students through interesting activities and hands on experiences to sensitise them on their electoral rights and to familiarise them with the electoral process of registration and voting. In ELCs learning classes fun, activities and games are designed to stimulate and motivate students provoking them to think and ask questions. Though ELC, Election Commission of India, aims at strengthening the culture of electoral participation among young and future voters. The Primary objective of the club is to sensitize student community about the democratic programmes to create awareness. ELC conducts mock polling activity to give the experience-based learning of the democratic setup. We also conduct cartoon drawing, debates, mock parliaments, elocution, essay writing and other programmes which create an awareness regarding electoral procedures. The major vision of ELC is providing a clearcut vision about electoral participation and a sense of democratic attribute among young generation.

The symbol of NSS draws inspiration from the iconic Rath Wheel of the Konark Sun Temple in Orissa, India. This wheel symbolizes the cycle of creation, preservation, and liberation, reflecting life's continual evolution. It embodies NSS's commitment to both continuity and change, representing its ongoing endeavor for social transformation.
Motto
The motto or watchword of the National Service Scheme is: ‘NOT ME BUT YOU’
This reflects the essence of democratic living and upholds the need for selfless service and appreciation of the other person’s point of view and also to show consideration for fellow human beings. It underlines that the welfare of an individual is ultimately dependent on the welfare of society on the whole. Therefore, it should be the aim of the NSS to demonstrate this motto in its day programme.
