Millets Day Celebration

The P G Department of Economics collaborated with the Research department of Botany and Department of Bio Chemistry for celebrating Millets day 2023. Millets are known as “Nutri-Cereals” due to their high nutritional content compared to wheat, rice or corn. The United Nations General Assembly at its 75th session in March 2021 declared 2023 the International Year of Millets (IYM). The IYM 2023 is an opportunity to raise awareness of, and direct policy attention to the nutritional and health benefits of millets and their suitability for cultivation under adverse and changing climatic conditions. With this backdrop, the Departments of, Economics, Botany and Biochemistry together organized a One Day Seminar on Millets on 24.02.2023 at 10.00AM, followed by a Millet Exhibition, Sale, Food Fest, Recipe Contest and Fun Quiz. The programme was inaugurated by Sri Anoop, Agriculture officer, Kandanissery Puncahayath. Dr Harinarayanan M K, the Principal presided over the function. Ms Ambili Appukuttan, Chief dietitian, Chavakkad Taluk Hospital gave a thought provoking lecture on the importance of millets in our diet paln. Dr Vijoy P S, IQAC Co-ordinator gave felicitations in the function. Dr Ambili K, HOD, Department of Economics extended a warm welcome to all participants. Dr Umadevi, HOD Bio chemistry proposed the vote of thanks.

The programme was arranged with the participation of Kudumbasree members of Kananissery Punchayath and the students of the nearby Anganawady also participated in the function.
