Premchand, often referred to as the "Story Emperor" of Hindi literature, was born on 31st July 1880. He is credited with bringing stories out of the realm of fantasy and into the reality of everyday life. Consequently, the beginning of storytelling in Hindi literary history is often attributed to him. Premchand masterfully depicted the challenges faced by the people of India in his stories, reflecting many of the social injustices prevalent during that era. For this reason, he is also known as "Kalam Ka Sipahi" (The Soldier with a Pen). Though his real name was Dhanpat Rai, he became more famous under the pen name Premchand.
