The Department of Biochemistry organized a Bridge Course on “Good Laboratory Practices (GLP)” on 16 July 2025 for the newly admitted students. The programme aimed to familiarize students with essential laboratory protocols, safety measures, and best practices required for effective laboratory work and scientific research.

The session was conducted by Mr. Lijith K. P., Research Scholar, Amala Cancer Research Centre, Thrissur. Drawing from his research experience, the resource person provided a comprehensive overview of Good Laboratory Practices and emphasized their significance in ensuring accuracy, reliability, and integrity in laboratory investigations.

The session covered key aspects of laboratory safety, proper handling and storage of chemicals, use of personal protective equipment (PPE), maintenance of laboratory records, waste disposal procedures, and ethical conduct in scientific research. Students were also introduced to standard operating procedures (SOPs) and the importance of maintaining a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment.

The programme included interactive discussions and practical insights that enabled students to understand the responsibilities of laboratory personnel and the standards expected in research and diagnostic laboratories. The participants actively engaged in the session and clarified their doubts regarding laboratory practices and safety measures.

The Bridge Course was highly beneficial in preparing students for laboratory-based learning and research activities. The Department of Biochemistry expresses its sincere gratitude to Mr. Lijith K. P. for sharing his expertise and valuable knowledge with the students.
