The P.G. and Research Department of Botany conducted the fourth of the Lecture series, GRANUM, on 05.08.2025. An invited lecture session on Karkidakam- Bridging Tradition and Science was conducted by Dr. Harsha Swarup,Ayurveda Physician, Pratidi Ayurveda, Guruvayur.  The talk was intended to focus on the cultural, spiritual, and health-related significance of the malayalam month Karkidakam—especially in the context of Kerala. The program was intended for UG and PG Botany students of our department.

The session was inaugurated by Capt. Rajesh Madhavan., Principal in charge, Sree Krishna College. Dr. Lakshmi Sankar, IKSC Convenor and Dr. Prajith T.M., Biodiversity Club Convenor offered felicitations to the gathering. Dr. Gayathri G, Asst. Professor, Department of Botany introduced the speaker, Dr. Harsha Swarup. 

The month of Karkidakam, also known as 'Ramayana Masam', holds deep cultural and spiritual significance in Kerala. It marks the last month of the Malayalam calendar and typically falls between mid-July and mid-August. This period, characterized by heavy rains and adverse weather conditions, has given rise to unique traditional practices that blend spirituality, health, and lifestyle.

The speaker emphasised that this time of the year should be for spiritual reflection, bodily rejuvenation, and cultural renewal. The traditional practices followed during this month are deeply rooted in Ayurveda, spirituality, and community values, reflecting the wisdom of Kerala’s ancestral way of life. The talk gave an understanding of these traditions that can help to stay connected to our roots while also promoting holistic well-being. The one-hour talk was followed by an interactive session with the students. The students actively involved in the interactive session with the resource person.
