ASTERACEAE

    Asteraceae : Gamopetalae

The Asteraceae family, commonly known as the daisy, sunflower, or aster family, is one of the largest and most diverse families of flowering plants.   The Asteraceae family is a botanical group of more than 32,000 plants. This flower family is also known as the Compositae family because its flowers are made up of a composite cluster of smaller blossoms. Most members of the Asteraceae family are herbaceous, although some can be shrubby or trees. Asteraceae family members have composite flowers, meaning that multiple small flowers are arranged together to form a single flower head. The flower head typically consists of two types of flowers: ray flowers (outer flowers with large petals) and disc flowers (inner flowers with small or no petals).
